About Viki
I’m Viki Knott — proud Scot, collector, dealer, talker and lifelong shopkeeper turned gallerist.
I grew up in the antiques world of Edinburgh during the roaring 1990s, a boom time for the trade. It was a world of characters, stories and constant discovery which shaped everything I do today. I opened my first shop on Causewayside in 1993, long before online selling existed and long before I had three wonderful children to run around after.
When the internet arrived, I embraced it early in 2000 - it was the perfect way to keep dealing full time while juggling family life. Fast forward via three other shops to 2024, and I opened my eponymous basement gallery in Edinburgh - a former butchery turned 2,000 sq ft industrial art space in the old Corn Exchange area. It’s raw, atmospheric, and still a work in progress but it’s exactly the kind of place I always dreamed of creating.
My passion has always been for the artists who slipped through the cracks: Scottish painters, British makers and single voices lost to history who put pen to paper and paint to canvas without ever receiving the recognition they deserved. This overlooked corner of the art world is where I feel most at home.
Television Work
Alongside my gallery work, I’ve been a dealer on four television series, most recently Salvage Hunters. The same instincts that shaped my on screen work - sourcing, research and uncovering overlooked stories, continue to guide the way I curate the gallery today.
Today, the gallery focuses on rediscovered 20th Century British and European art. Works on paper, textiles, studio pieces and paintings that deserve a second life. From this spring onwards, we’ll be presenting themed collections both online and inhouse, each one curated with care and a deep respect for the artists behind the work.
The gallery continues to evolve, just like the space itself. Watch this space, sign up to the newsletter and follow along as we keep uncovering the stories and artworks that deserve to be seen.
Viki x
