Centrum Football Banner Flag / A. Coen-Soyez, Antwerp (c. 1920)
A moment of athletic glory captured in the lustrous language of silk and thread.
This embroidered banner immortalizes a dramatic goalmouth save, its action rendered in crisp, stylized planes of appliqué silk. Above the fray, the club's name stands stitched in proud relief against a graphic Antwerp skyline, while below, a heraldic shield anchors the scene with symbols of civic and sporting identity. It functions as both a record of a specific season and a timeless emblem of communal pride, its formal composition lending a near-mythic quality to the match.
Medium: Hand-embroidered silk on fabric support
Inscription on Front: "VOETBAL EN ATHLETIEK VEREENIGING CENTRUM 19 – 20", signed lower right "A. COEN – SOYEZ Antwerpen"
Condition: Textile shows light staining, tonal fading, edge fraying consistent with age. The framing has various historic woodworm holes which at points has affected flag.
