Findhorn Sands / Kenneth Robertson, (Scottish, Late 20th Century)
A breezy coastal idyll rendered in delicate, atmospheric washes of colour.
Robertson captures a bright stretch of the Moray coast with exceptional transparency, allowing soft, muted tones of blue, beige, and grey-green to bleed into one another. Scattered figures, almost calligraphic in their brevity, punctuate the sands, their presence anchored by the soft geometry of poles and netting in the foreground. This is a work of quiet observation, where the delicate layering of watercolour masterfully evokes the damp air and shifting light of the Scottish shore.
Kenneth Robertson was a doctor on South Uist for 25 years 1956-1981. A keen photographer he recorded the people and way of life in the Hebrides with his camera. Some of his photos can be seen in books published by The Islands Book Trust.
