A rarely seen matching pair of 1960’s bookcases in teak. The bookcases were produced in the 1960’s as part of Herbert Gibbs Gold Label Autograph range. Each bookcase retains the metal plate. The colour is what makes them rare. Teak bookcases by Herbert Gibbs are normally darker than this.
Herbert E. Gibbs trained as a cabinet maker at a technical college and also taught carpentry at a school. He founded Herbert E. Gibbs, a furniture manufacturing company in approximately the 1920s. The firm was based at De Beauvoir Road, London and later First Avenue, Montague Road, London. The firm produced furniture for domestic and commercial use. This was sold direct to the public and trade and through retailers across the UK, including Heals.
These bookcases are complete with adjustable shelves and are in very good condition.
