Khayamiya in the 1920s were characterized by a shift from traditional Khedival forms to a "tour-istic" style, often featuring Pharaonic and geometric motifs
Crafted for the export market, fueled by the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. These hand-stitched cotton appliqué pieces, originally from Egyptian tents (suradeq), were produced as decorative items tor home and tourist use, differing in scale and theme from their earlier functional origins. The traditional technique of hand-stitching cotton appliqué onto a cotton ground continued to be used for these pieces.
