Tuscan Landscape / Max Hayslette - Giclee on Canvas
Tuscan Landscape / Max Hayslette - Giclee on Canvas
A tranquil southern landscape built from pure colour and Cézannesque form.
A cluster of whitewashed villas with red-tiled roofs rests on a rolling green hillside, their solid forms reflected in the calm surface of a lake. The artist works in a classic Post-Impressionist style, constructing the landscape not with lines but with distinct, blocky patches of color; the planes of the buildings and the contours of the hills are rendered in a harmonious palette of ochre, soft green, and lavender. This is a masterful study in structure and light, a timeless scene where the influence of Cézanne is evident in the search for geometric order within the natural world.
Max Hayslette was an internationally recognised landscape and abstract painter and printmaker. He graduated from The American Academy of Art in Chicago in 1951 and pursued post-graduate study at The Art Institute of Chicago.
He would hold "Martini's with Max" gala events for art openings. His proudest moment was said to have been showing at 2003 Florence Biennale International.
