Peter Crotty (b.1943) is a British studio potter and artist whose work spans early abstract experimentation and the distinctive ceramic language he later developed at Oxshott Pottery. In the early 1960s he produced a rare body of graphic and mixed‑media works characterised by dense patterning, interlocking forms and a sculptural sense of rhythm — visual ideas that would later inform his raku and hand‑built ceramics.
In the 1970s Crotty lived and worked at Oxshott Pottery as the long‑term partner of potter and teacher Rosemary Wren, daughter of the pioneering ceramicist Denise Wren. His practice became part of the wider Oxshott studio environment, and many of his early works and teaching materials were preserved within the Wren family archive. Crotty’s ceramics are held in public collections, including York Art Gallery, and his early works survive primarily through the Oxshott estate, offering a rare insight into the evolution of a distinctive British maker.
