Born in Glasgow, Isobel studied at Glasgow School of Art. After graduation, she worked in the United States and France. In 1959 she married fellow artist Ewen McAslan and in 1967 they moved to Canada where she taught and became deeply involved in women’s issues, particularly in relation to art. She presented papers and published essays on women in art.
Upon retiring in 1994, Isobel and Ewen returned to Scotland settling in Pittenweem and becoming active in the annual Pittenweem Art Festival.
