A powerful study of form and reflection, where sculpted willows anchor a winter landscape.
Three pollarded willows, their bare branches exploding like synapses against a cool sky, dominate the riverbank in this powerful landscape. McAndrew uses broad, confident strokes to sculpt the gnarled trunks and broken reflections in the water, setting the earthy greens and browns of the foreground against the cool blues of the river and distant hills. While its companion piece explores a soft, linear procession, this work is a study in raw, monumental form; it captures the rugged character and enduring presence of these classic riverside trees.
