Compositie / Hans Van Rossem, (Dutch, 1974)
A vibrant, explosive abstraction where landscape dissolves into pure energy and colour.
This dynamic work by the Dutch artist Hans van Rossem is a classic example of post-war European expressionism, translating the feeling of a dense, flowering landscape into a field of raw energy. Working with a palette knife and heavy impasto, the artist builds the surface with thick, vertical strokes of fiery orange, red, and deep blue, allowing the colours to collide and merge. Titled simply 'Compositie', the work's history as part of the Dutch state art collection underscores its significance; it's a powerful and sophisticated painting that pushes the boundaries between landscape and pure abstraction.
Hans Van Rossem lived and worked in Eemnes, in the province of Utrecht. He was active from 1945 -1999 favouring painting Impressionist landscapes and cityscapes.
